Please note that Flourish Health uses "Alternate" and "Aliases" interchangeably in our documentation.
An alias email address, in the context of email systems and especially platforms like Google Workspace, refers to an additional email address that's associated with a primary email account. Emails sent to the alias are delivered to the primary account's inbox. The user can also often send emails from the alias.
Here are some key points to understand about alias email addresses:
.1One Inbox: Even though there are multiple addresses (the primary and the aliases), all emails sent to these addresses end up in the same inbox.
.2Send From Alias: Many email platforms, including Gmail in Google Workspace, allow users to send emails from their alias addresses. This means that the recipients would see the email as coming from the alias, not the primary email address.
.3Organization and Filtering: Aliases can be useful for organizing and filtering emails. For example, if you have an alias specifically for newsletters, you can set up a filter in your email platform to automatically move all emails sent to that alias into a "Newsletters" folder.
.4Protection against Spam: By giving out alias addresses in situations where you're unsure about how the email might be used, you can protect your primary email address. If one of the aliases starts receiving too much spam or unwanted emails, you can often delete or change the alias without affecting the primary address.
.5Professional Presentation: In a business context, aliases can be used to create department-specific addresses like "support@domain.com" or "sales@domain.com", even if all emails to those addresses go to the same departmental inbox.
In the context of Google Workspace's Gmail, creating alias addresses is quite straightforward, and these can be easily managed by the administrator via the Admin console.
Alternate emails can be created for individual Google Workspace accounts or Google Groups email addresses.
